This tutorial will show you how to begin a quad/tornado stitch (lanyard/scoubidou/gimp/boondoggle).
In other words the stitch i’m showing here is the first stitch you’ll need to make for the quad stitch lanyard, and also the first stitch that you will need to make for the tornado stitch lanyard.

a quad stitch is basically a 2 by 2 square stitch, because in the quad stitch you will do a box type stitch, taking the strings in a strait angle.
a tornado stitch is basically a by 2 barrel stitch, because in the tornado stitch you will do a barrel type stitch, taking the strings in a diagonal angle.
As we know to start the barrel and box stitch we start a box stitch. So it’s exactly the same thing here, we start a quad stitch ,and then we continue making or in a strait angle, like a quad stitch, or in a diagonal angle, like a tornado stitch.
You will need to cut 4 strings that are the same length, if you want to make a small key-chain the length of the strings should be about 2-3 meters long.

that we complete the stitch. (in this case we will use a pencil).

02:00 – taking a pencil and thread it through the current stitch.

02:19 – adding the fourth string inside the stitch, on-top of the pencil.

02:30 – weaving the fourth string.

03:24 – removing the pencil.

03:29 – stretching the stitch.

03:40 – completed the stitch.

03:43 – 3rd picture, this is a harder way to add the fourth string, and by
that we complete the stitch. (in this case we will use a sharp object).

03:45 – taking the forth string.

03:51 – thread the fourth string through the current stitch.

04:02 – weaving the first side of the fourth string.

04:16 – showing how we will weave the second side of the fourth string.

04:26 – taking the sharp object (mine is a scissors) and pulling the center green string.

04:41 – weaving the second side of the fourth string in between the green strings (the closest strings from that side).

04:58 – pulling the edge blue string, and weave the second side of the fourth string in between the blue strings.

05:17 -stretching the strings.

05:31 – completed the first quad/tornado stitch.
